Question 1

What is a hackathon?

Remember the scene in The Social Network movie where a bunch of guys do shots while they attempt to be Facebook’s first intern? That’s what a hackathon is!

Haven’t watched the movie yet? No worries! A hackathon is a platform for brilliant minds to come together, open up their laptops, solve problems and build practical solutions individually or collectively.

It’s also a forum for like-minded people to collaborate, develop their professional networks and take part in some pretty cool workshops and mentorships!

Question 2

Who can participate?

Students, professionals, researchers, retirees, just about anyone is welcome to join! Passion over profession any day!

Question 3

Do I need prior coding experience?

Depends. If you’re planning to join the Engineer Track, then yes. Otherwise, no. PS. You don’t have to be a pro at coding for the Engineer track either. If you’re an enthusiast, that’d do as well.

Question 4

How much does it cost?

Nada. Nothing. Completely free of cost, and you even stand to win exciting rewards! ;)

Question 5

Can I apply as a team/participate solo?

You can do as you wish!

Question 6

Will it be offline or online?

Given the unpredictability of the current global situation, it only makes sense to have an online event. Don’t worry though, for we’ll be (over)compensating for it with games, cool rewards and exciting workshops!

Question 7

How big should a team be?

You can form teams of up to 4 people. Try to have a mix of skills that’d complement one another.

Question 8

What if I don’t have a team or an idea yet?

Not to worry! We’ll have team formation and ideation events to help you out. All you need to bring to the table are eagerness, a will to learn and an aim to build impact.

Question 9

Once accepted, what do I need in order to compete?

A valid government ID is a must for us to know you’re a real person. Apart from that, it’d do well to keep the following handy:

  • A well-functioning handy laptop/computer
  • Unwavering, strong and reliable Wifi connection
  • Event-specific software, if any (depending on the track you’ve registered for)
  • Grit, food and water - a lot of it. Also, a minimum of 8 hours’ sleep on the day prior to the event.
